"The turquoise parrot (Neophema pulchella) is a species of parrot native to Eastern Australia. Once common throughout many parts of eastern Australia, the Turquoise Parrot was formerly recorded from near Mackay in Queensland south to Melbourne until the 1880s, when its population suddenly crashed. Populations recovered spectacularly over the next 20 years or so, and by the 1930s they were again recorded through much of their former range.

The male is predominantly green with more yellowish underparts and a bright turquoise blue face. Its wings are predominantly blue with red shoulders. The female is generally duller and paler, with a pale green breast and yellow belly, and lacks the red wing patch."
